The objectives of Beyond Existing are stated in the organisation’s constitution as follows:

  • To convene support groups which will provide practical and emotional help and aid recovery from the long-term effects of that abuse.
  • To make support groups available to vulnerable adults who have been abused either in childhood or adulthood.
  • To offer support and practical advice to any vulnerable adult who has either left their abusive situation or who may still be experiencing abuse.
  • Vulnerable adults will be offered understanding of their experiences of abuse, the causes of abuse and how to deal with abusive situations. Training will be also offered to promote self esteem and a sense of well being e.g. assertiveness training, literacy skills. Members of the groups will be offered access to other services if appropriate.

This is achieved by:

  • Running therapeutic support groups; separate groups are run for men and women.
  • Identifying the best methods to help a person through the healing process.
  • Facilitating social groups for people who have healed or who are waiting to attend the therapeutic groups.
  • Offering telephone support when needed.
